So after Nivaans notified me of Chapter 143 spoilers, I had told a friend of mine who also keeps up with the manga about it. So, fast forward to Friday we get a hold of the Japanese raws which sadly only went up to page fifteen, skim through those so we get a general idea and then when it's posted we go back and read the scanlation.
For starters, when I first told her the spoilers the first thing I told her was "Karma and Nagisa got into a fight!" and then we proceeded to rant about that because as many of you know, Karma and Nagisa have good relationship. They get along really well despite being polar opposites and never have we actually seen them have a major disagreement so this came as a surprise and it left us kinda uneasy. I had had skimmed through the spoiler page and told her everything I had read off of it and what Nivvans had told me and we shifted the conversation from Karma and Nagisa's confrontation, to the reasons of the opposing side. They all very valid reasons, however Terasaka's reason definitely stands as the most valid. They have absolutely no idea of the antimatter that turned Korosensei into the octopus-thing he is now works and the foundation of it all an like he said, even with their knowledge, the best Okuda and Takebayashi could get to is university level. It is because of they lack that founational knowledge, as well as where they should start, it's basically next to impossible to save Korosensei.
Karma's reason is the next valid reason however there are quite a few holes due to the opinionated nature of it. He's very much right about the fact that Korosensei did his best for the class, however Karma isn't actually weak and even though he may be able to empathize with the weak, he can never truly understand them and as a result all his talk about Nagisa not being able to understand people that are weaker than him that makes him sound hypocritical in quite a few ways. Yes, he was beaten and lost and that caused him to check that high and mighty attitude of his, however because he isn't actually "weak" his ability to empathize can only go so far just like it is with all humans. That isn't to say that Nagisa is in the right due to how idealistic his idea is, but even then, because their relationship is also student and teacher and when the true magnitude of that dawns on you, it's not out of range to want to try to save them because that is still your teacher regardless and that same teacher helped you mature and become a better person over the course of the year.
Nagisa is weak. Even with his prodigious assassination talent, which has caused a lot of debate over whether or not he is the strongest person in Class E, however if you take out that talent then all that is left is the meek boy without any defining skills or characteristics. His assassination talent and bloodlust allow him to get a taste of what it's like to be strong, but at the end of the day he's still weak. However, because he realized his own talent can be used in other ways, that reassurance which is probably what stemmed the idea Korosensei, can be mistaken for cockiness which is what Karma referred to it. It is probably because of that "cockiness" that he did the one thing that probably wasn't expected of him: snap and lash out. To take it further, at Nagisa of people. I'm sure many thought the two would clash at some point (I wasn't one of those people), but I'm sure they didn't think it would be this way.
Think back to the Assassination Island arc as well Nagisa's mother, Hiromi. Karma told Takaoka, who was about twice the size the Nagisa, that rather than the little guy with the obvious disadvantage to take him on instead. Karma lashed out at Nagisa with clear knowledge at the difference in fighting power. He resulted to force, something Takaoka also did. But unlike Takaoka he was aware of Nagisa's assassin potential. Being a fighter and being an assassin are two different things which is also the root of Karma considering Nagisa "strong." In that class, assassination is the most important thing and Karma who's a fighter as opposed to Nagisa, who's an assassin is at a clear loss in terms that kind of "talent." Takaoka never realized and was too consumed with his own twisted misconceptions to even try and understand that. Despite that clear difference, both sought to force that only ended in a killer counterattack. In terms of Nagisa's mother, if you look closely at Nagisa's expression when he's trying to give his counter argument to Karma, it resembles the look he would give his mother whenever he tried to oppose her which ultimately ended in her going off. That's a similar case here. When Nagisa tried to give his side, Karma went off and resulted to force in something that Nagisa would ultimately remain at a disadvantage no matter how killer the technique. That is a lot like Nagisa's former relationship with his mother, but, Nagisa still loved her as his mother regardless. It's the same with Karma. He still very much cares for Karma as one of his closest and judging by this it's possible they've never actually had an argument as intense as this so judging by the look in his eyes as he's about to face one of his closest friends, which is somewhere in between "I don't want to fight him" and "I'm very serious about this" you can tell this is pretty tough. Even Karma, who's basically a big ball of rage right now and we can't even tell what he's thinking, I don't think he actually wants to go against Nagisa like this, yet despite that with how things look now whether or not they'll make up is debatable.
As mentioned before, Karma noted of how Korosensei did his best for the class, however that is because of his main driving point: the promise Korosensei made to Aguri. Without a doubt he made the students his genuine interest, but at the end of the day, that promise with Aguri is one of the main things that keep him there with Class E in addition to his bond with them. Korosensei didn't just help them build up their bloodlust, he helped build back up their confidence and that was the main thing Aguri wanted to do for that class. She wanted to help them build back up their confidence and see they have potential to do what they want. The assassination and everything related was just a motivational tool. This is a teaching method called Project Pedagogy which is basically having a main project (the assassination) and using it to teach the class. By using this he was helping them get back up on their feet and as you all know that is the promise Korosensei made to Aguri and the whole point of this year.
With that in mind, I believe Class E is either forgetting about this fact or don't fully realize its extent which makes the whole war seem like a pointless stalemate. Both sides have very valid reasons and I get that, but I'm neutral because of everything I've just talked about and the fact that I believe there is a potential third option which is killing Korosensei without actually killing him. The best way to explain this is during the second Finals arc in which Gakushuu asked Class E to kill his father without actually killing him. He asked them to kill his education idealogy which would in turn destroy the ruthless chairman we all have come to know and causing him to mellow out back to his old self for the most part. Although I'm not quite sure how they would kill Korosensei without killing him, but hey, that's just my opinion. There's still a high chance of Korosensei getting killed in the end.
That's all I have to say on the matter. I'm very much in the middle of it all because of my own confliction with the whole thing. I'm still wrapping my head around this and going back and looking for more clues that back up to this argument, but in the end if you asked me to choose kill Korosensei or save him, I couldn't. I am grateful to Korosensei though. Like he said, he doesn't want the class to be divided over something like this, and I agree which is why he suggested the paintball/capture the flag in the first place. I believe they'll come up with something during it. I'm not sure what though, but it will be something.
