Sōsuke Sugaya is a student in Class 3-E of Kunugigaoka Junior High School, taught by Korosensei.

Appearance

Sōsuke is a tall and slender male with dark grey/silver hair that goes past his ears and dark eyes.

Personality

Sugaya is a well-meaning and easy-going person who's also very creative. He has a love and talent for art and has a calm demeanor.

History

During his 2nd year, he was treated as a delinquent by teachers because his "needless" artistic tendencies ended up making him stand out too much. In the end, because of his art and his low grades, he was dropped to Class E

Plot

Sugaya gets his spotlight in Chapter 37 where he came into class with a henna tattoo on his arm, shocking the whole class. He explains what it is and the class is awed by it and Korosensei is relieved that Sugaya isn't becoming a delinquent. Sugaya offers to draw a henna tattoo Korosensei and he happily accepts. When he starts drawing, part of Korosensei's face begins to melt, surprising both him and the other students. He says it was no good and it was revealed that he had ground some anti-sensei bullets into fine powder and mixed it with the henna paint. Korosensei compliments him on the idea, but then sulks because he wanted a design. Sugaya apologizes and tells him he'll draw one with the normal henna.

After a while, the whole class adopts Sugaya's henna style (subsequently shocking Bitch-sensei when she walks into the room). Korosensei tells Sugaya that watching him draw those makes him want to draw some, but Sugaya tells him that he ended up drawing on everyone so there are no more blank canvases left. Both of hem then turn their attention to Bitch-sensei who tells them to quit screwing around. Before she could finish the rest of her rant, she trips on a tube of henna paint and falls back, hitting her head on the wall and knocking her out in the process. Korosensei tells them to let her rest for the time being and while she's resting he and Sugaya will each take an arm to draw on. As they prepare for their little competition, Okuda tells Sugaya that the designs are amazing and the whole class adopted his style faster than they can blink. His past and how he ended up in Class E is then referred back to and by the time the flashback ends, he's finished his design on Bitch-sensei. The class compliments him and say it's just what they'd expect from him. Sugaya then tells them that henna was supposed to be fashion art in the first place and that going outside with the finished product leaves one with a great feeling.

As the class continue their praises, Korosensei reveals his design which is a manga strip. He tells them that he's bad a art and fashion so he just went with what he knew. The class then exclaims that if he's just going to make excuses then he shouldn't draw. The two sides don't match and Sugaya spruces up Korosensei's side and in response Korosensei says that it'll only make her smug if the result is too pretty. Their competition gets out of hand and they end up drawing on every exposed part of her body. She wakes up and starts examining herself the leaves the room only to come back later with some military machine guns and deadly aura surrounding her, indicating her anger. She starts shooting and is ranting in the process. While Sugino is holding her back, Nagisa tells Sugaya that Bitch-sensei wouldn't be so angry if he'd done all the drawing. He replies by telling Nagisa that it seems that way and tells him that normally, if he doodled on the back of an assignment, he'd get pissed if it was ignored. However, Korosensei (who he referred to as "that octopus") adds improvements to his pointless drawings and has fun with it to boot. He then says that if you think about it, it's only natural and that there's no reason that doodling would make him loose points. He then tells Nagisa that this whole killing ordeal isn't so bad to which Nagisa agrees.

During the summer vacation, he has an important role during the fight with Gastro. While the other students are shuffling around to distract the assassin; Sugaya is creating a scare crow. The scare crow, which greatly resembles Yoshida, is used as a decoy. This allows Chiba to take his shot at the bracket of the stage light disabling Gastro. He did all this in near silence.

Abilities

Art: Sugaya is the most artistic member of Class E and possibly one of the most artistic students in all of Kunugigaoka. He's very creative when in comes to making things ranging from carvings to drawings. Because of his artistic sense he's able to make disguises quickly and proficiently, along with designing camouflage.
